June – Leafy greens

June is a great month to be able to harvest fresh leafy greens to eat either in a salad or cooked. I can easily find 10 different leaves to choose at this time of year many of them with great flavour too.

Turkish rocket

If you want a hot but slightly bitter taste to stimulate your liver this is for you. Although in a finely chopped salad you will hardly notice it. This is a very productive plant. If you remove the flower spike you will gain further leafy growth into the summer too. Once established it will compete with grass. It gets hotter as the season progresses.

Other greens

There are many alliums worth trying which include Hookers, perennial spring and Egyptian walking onion.
